COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Thundering Herd men's golf team finished in 17th place at this weekend's Johnny Kepler Intercollegiate with a three-round score of 931 (304-313-314). Xavier won the Ohio State University-sponsored event with an 886 (288-297-301).
Freshman Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) was Marshall's highest finisher with a 225 (80-73-72), good for a tie for 17th place. Burke Spensky (Huntington, W.Va.) finished in a tie for 32nd place with a three-round score of 228 (75-77-76), and Ben Minyard (Avondale, Ariz.) tied for 83rd with a 238 (73-82-83). Brad Tweel (Huntington, W.Va.) closed out the Herd's scoring-four with a 242 (76-83-83), which placed him 91st. Sophomore Steve Ross (Huntington, W.Va.) also played over the weekend and carded a 253 (85-81-87).
Ryan Yip of Kent State defeated Brad Heaven of Toledo in a sudden death playoff to claim medalist honors. Both Yip and Heaven ended the tournament with a 214.
The Herd takes part in the First Energy Collegiate next weekend at the Firestone Golf and Country Club. The event is hosted by the University of Akron.
