HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Thundering Herd men's golf team will host the 35th Annual Marshall Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Guyan Golf and Country Club in Barboursville, W.Va. Fourteen teams will compete in the tournament, which begins with a shotgun start Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.
Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday, with the final 18 settled on Saturday. Play on Saturday begins at 8 a.m. on the 1st and 10th tees.
The Guyan Golf and Country Club will be set up at 6,446 yards and a par of 71.
Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, UNC-Charlotte, Eastern Kentucky, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Ohio, Penn State, the University of Charleston, Wright State, Xavier, and the host Thundering Herd will compete for the tournament title, which was won by the University of Illinois last season with a three-round score of 851 (283-273-295). Matt Kohn of the University of Kentucky won the individual championship with a 211 (68-68-75).
The team record for the 54-hole event was set in 2001, when Ohio State finished with an 839. The Buckeyes also hold the lowest team total for 18 holes at 275, which also took place in 2001.
The individual single-round record is a 65, which was set by Kyle Vorska of Miami (OH) in 1998. The 54-hole individual record is a 208, which was tallied by Michael Harris of Michigan in 1998 and Mike Austin of Ohio State in 2001.
