Marshall Tennis Tops Ball State, 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Marshall University women?s tennis team defeated Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State 6-1, Friday afternoon. With the win the Thundering Herd remains undefeated in the MAC, improving their record to 16-4 overall 6-0 in conference. The Cardinals fall to 10-7 and 4-3 in the MAC on the season.

In doubles, Marshall defeated Ball State in all three contests. In the number one doubles slot 28th ranked senior Jessica Johnson (Sewickly, Pa.) and junior Ashley Kroh (Louisville, Ky.) defeated Melissa Roach and Katie Owens 8-3. In the number two position Senior Alice Sukner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and junior Lille Nzudie (Douala, Cameroon) topped Jill Wieman and Jessica Thompson 8-2, while senior Meghan Skalsky (East Lansing, Mich.) and junior Danielle Hock (Wiggin, England) wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory over Jenny Batty and Susan Kelley in the number three doubles slot.

After securing the doubles point, MU went on to claim five of the six singles matches en route to their 15th straight conference win. Marshall landed wins in the number two, three, four, five and six singles positions, with the most convincing victory by Kroh over Owen 6-1, 6-2 in the number three singles slot for the Herd.

Marshall will return to action Saturday when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, to face the Falcons of BGSU at 1:00 p.m.
