Meredith Knight Named Head Women's Golf Coach

6/17/2004

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall Director of Golf Joe Feaganes and Athletic Director Bob Marcum have named Meredith Knight, an assistant for Feaganes for the last three seasons, head women's golf coach.

Knight, originally from Jacksboro, Texas, joined the Marshall staff in 2001 as an assistant to Feaganes for both the men's and women's teams.

?It has been my goal from the beginning that when the time was right, we would elevate her to head coach,? said Feaganes. ?I feel the women?s golf program is on solid ground, and a lot of that has to do with Meredith. She has developed a good relationship with the student-athletes and the Huntington golf community. There has also been tremendous improvement in the last few years, and I can only see a bright future for our women?s golf program with Meredith at the helm.?

?After visiting with Joe Feaganes, it was a pleasure to implement his recommendation to promote a very qualified individual like Meredith to become our women?s head golf coach,? said Marcum.

Over the past two seasons, Knight has spent most of her time with the women's team. In 2003-04, in only their second season of existence, Herd freshman Allyson Hatcher garnered MAC Freshman of the Year honors, and Marshall finished fifth in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

?I?m thrilled to be named the head women?s golf coach at Marshall University,? said Knight. ?I?ve developed a good relationship with our players over the past few years, and I?m confident that this promotion will make those relationships even stronger.

?I would also like to thank Mr. Marcum and especially Joe Feaganes for making the investment in me and into the women?s golf program. Joe and I have had a great working relationship, and he?s helped guide me to become a better coach and representative of Marshall University.?

Knight played collegiately at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, and at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, New Mexico. While at New Mexico State, she graduated with a B.A. in Marketing and received a degree from the Professional Golf Management Program.

Before her time at Marshall, Knight was an assistant golf pro and teaching instructor at Legend Lake Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio, and at the prestigious Dallas Country Club in Dallas, Texas.

She is also a PGA Apprentice awaiting Level III testing and election to membership in the PGA of America.
