MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - For the third straight game, the Marshall men's soccer team went to overtime, but unlike the first two games, the Herd was unable to come away with a win, falling 2-1 to the Mountaineers Wednesday night in Morgantown.

For West Virginia (3-2), it was their third straight win over Marshall (2-3). It was the second time in the series that the game had ended in overtime. Last year, WVU scored the only goal of the game in overtime.

This year, WVU got on the board first when Devon McTavish scored just over six minutes into the game with an assist from Andrew Wright.

The Herd came back at the 25 minute mark to tie it up on Salvador Djeukeng's (Yaounde, Cameroon) first goal of the season. The assist on the goal went to Firas Al-Samarraie (Malmoe, Sweden).

The second half was scoreless, but each team had their chances with WVU registering 12 shots and Marshall having five. The game went into overtime and with just over two minutes left, Aaron Pitchkolan scored to give WVU the 2-1 win.

WVU outshot Marshall, 22-8. Michael McDonald (Luton, England) led the Herd with three shots. Joe Nebel (Brentwood, TN) played in goal for the Herd, allowing two goals and making five saves.

"It was a tough match, both teams played hard, but we just did not get the job done," Coach Bob Gray said. "We need to find a way to win games in regulation instead of going to overtime, we just need to regroup and get some rest before Saturday."

After playing the first five games on the road, the Herd will return to Huntington for the home opener Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Cleveland State Vikings. Last season, the Herd topped the Vikings, 2-0, in Cleveland.

"We are looking forward to finally playing at home," Gray said. "It's been tough to start out on the road, but we played through it pretty well."
