BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Freshman Jeff Lenix (Westerville, OH) recorded two goals to help the Herd to a 5-2 win Sunday at Bowling Green for its first Mid-American Conference win of the season.

The Herd (4-4, 1-1 MAC)got off to a quick start when Karim Boukhemis (Huntington, WV) scored on a pass from Jeremy Ashe (Cinnamonsin, NJ), it was his team-leading third goal of the season. The Falcons (0-10, 0-1 MAC) tied it up at the 24 minute mark on a goal by Abiola Sandy and just over a minute later, took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Omari Aldridge.

Marshall battled back and at the 41 minute mark tied the game up when Firas Al-Samarraie (Malmoe, Sweden) scored on a penalty kick. The Herd re-took the lead two minutes later when Jeff Lenix netted his first career goal.

Just over four minutes into the second half, the Herd offense kept rolling as John Daniele (Columbus, OH) notched his second career goal. He was assisted by Kirk Gibson (Allen, TX). At the 78 minute mark, Lenix scored the final goal of the game on a pass from Jonathan Buxton (Virginia Beach, VA) to give the Herd a 5-2 conference win. It was Marshall's first win at Bowling Green.

Coach Bob Gray was excited with the win and how the team was able to bounce back after Friday's loss at Kentucky. "This is a big win for us, we have always struggled here at Bowling Green, so for us to come out of here with a win is great," Gray said. "Our whole team played great today, our offense took advantage of their chances against a tough BGSU team, even though they are struggling right now, they are still a good team."

Boukhemis led the Herd with four shots while Al-Samarraie and Gibson each had three. The Herd outshot Bowling Green, 18-11 on the day. Herd goalie Joe Nebel (Brentwood, TN) had a solid day, making four saves. BGSU goalie Brandon Decker made ten saves.

The five goals scored by Marshall marks their top offensive output of the season. Their previous season high for goals scored was three in the home opener against Cleveland State.

MU will take a short break from conference action, traveling to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. They will return home to Sam Hood Field for two very important conference games, October 3 against Northern Illinois and October 8 against nationally ranked Akron.
