1/13/2005

Marshall University receiver Josh Davis, defensive end Johnathan Goddard, linebacker Kevin Atkins, and offensive tackle Nate Griffin will be participating in collegiate all-star games on Saturday.

Goddard, Atkins, and Griffin will play for the South squad in the Villages Gridiron Classic at the Villages Polo Stadium in The Villages, Florida. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and the game will be televised live by ESPN2. Marshall?s trio of players will be coached by Virginia Tech?s Frank Beamer and Rick Lantz of NFL Europe?s Berlin Thunder.

Davis will play for Purdue head coach Joe Tiller?s East team in the 80th edition of the East-West Shrine Game from San Francisco?s SBC Park at 2:00 p.m. (EST). That game will be televised live by ESPN.

Marshall will also be represented in at least two other collegiate all-star games later this month. Marshall quarterback Stan Hill will play in the Las Vegas All-American Classic, and Goddard is scheduled to play in the Hula Bowl. Both of those games are set for Saturday, Jan. 22nd.

Atkins, a native of Richmond, Va., started in all 12 games at middle linebacker for Marshall and ranked among the team leaders in tackles with 93, including 40 solo stops. The standout amassed 240 total tackles in his Thundering Herd career.

Davis, a native of Hickory Grove, S.C., finished his collegiate career with the second-highest career receptions total in NCAA history with 306. Davis caught 86 passes for 914 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. He is a three-time all-conference selection, who earned second team honors in 2004.

Goddard, a Nagurski Trophy Finalist and Football Writers Association of America All-American, led the nation with a Mid-American Conference record 16 sacks in 2004. The native of Jacksonville, Fla., is the 2004 MAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Griffin, a native of Newport News, Va., started in 24 consecutive games along the offensive line to close out his collegiate career. He started in all 12 games for Marshall at left tackle in 2004 after starting in all 12 games as a junior at right tackle.
