HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall women's soccer lost a hard fought battle, 3-0, to Tulsa, Sundayat Sam Hood Field.
The first half of play proved to be an evenly balanced contest. Tulsa out-shot the Herd eight to five, but only put three of those shots on net. Marshall's numerous first half scoring opportunities came from Heather Burchett (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville), Jaime Gruber (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Stephanie Kot (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. John the Baptist).
The Golden Hurricane's Jennifer Kacergis opened scoring up in the second half of play by carrying the ball to the Marshall end-line and finishing with a shot to the far corner. Tulsa scored two more unanswered goals in the match for a final score of 3-0.
"We had numerous opportunities to score today, but we didn't capitalize and they [Tulsa] did. We fought tough and hard. It was rough to give up the first goal. It took the wind out of our sails," Head Coach Chris Kane said.
Overall, Marshall was out-shot 17 to nine for the match.
Herd goalkeeper Kia Nordness (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) made seven saves.
Marshall will play next on Wednesday, October 26, at 7 p.m. against Pikeville College in Pikeville, Ky.
