HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball program and head coach Mitch Jacobs announced on Wednesday, the signing of three student-athletes for next season.

Signing National Letters of Intent for the Herd are a talented group of players that includes one of Prep Volleyball's Top 250 seniors in the nation in Kristin Marcum of Arlington, Texas. The Herd also adds Emily Sullivan and Layne Kehl to round out the 2006 signing class.

"To say we're replacing the senior class would be crazy. I do feel we're addressing the needs that are being left by the void of our graduating seniors." Jacobs said. "I think we answered the questions we needed to address with this class and we are very excited."

Kristin Marcum is a 5'11 outside hitter from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas. Marcum is one of the Top 250 seniors in the country, the first signee with that recognition in Marshall volleyball history.

"She's an outstanding player with great ball control," Jacobs said. "Kristin has a very crafty game on the outside and will bring very good maturity to our freshman class."

Emily Sullivan a 5'11 middle blocker from Seton High School in Cincinnati and Layne Kehl a 6'1 middle blocker from Mountain Top, Pa., will help fill a void left by graduating middles Nickie Sanlin and Amber Sims. Jacobs addressed the need for a setter last year by bringing in Katherine Poss to learn from record-holder Katie Stein.

"Emily and Layne fit our personality very well," Jacobs said. "Emily will help us on the inside and outside. She hits an extremely hard ball and has exceptional skills. Layne is a strong up and coming player and at 6'1 she helps add to our obvious needs with two middles graduating."

The three signees will join the already talented core from the 2005 C-USA regular season champions and the Herd is excited about the commitment from the new players.

"The three players coming in are as excited to be a part of the program as we are to have them," Jacobs said. "All three of them will help us in all areas of the game. We've got three great kids coming in from exceptional families that made us enjoy the entire recruitment process."
