Marshall Well Represented in Super Bowl
2/4/2005
Marshall University will be represented by three former players in Super Bowl XXXIX on Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla.
Standout wide receiver/defensive back/specialist Troy Brown will take the field for New England on Sunday to face off with two fellow Marshall alums - lineman Steve Sciullo and long snapper/tight end Mike Bartrum.
Sunday's game will mark the first-time ever that Marshall products will face each other in the Super Bowl.
Brown, a 12-year NFL veteran, may be the most versatile player in the league, making an impact on offense, defense, and special teams. Brown has recorded more than 5,500 yards receiving and caught 25 touchdown passes in his career to go along with 1,800 kick return yards and 2,524 yards in punt returns. The two-time Superbowl Champion, also has 41 tackles and three interceptions to his credit.
Bartrum is no newcomer to football's big game, either. He was a member of the New England Patriots when the Pats lost to Green Bay in the 1997 Super Bowl. The 11-year NFL veteran, like Brown starred for the Herd in the early 1990's and has gone on to a stellar NFL career. Bartrum, who is arguably the best long snapper in the league, has caught five passes for for 45 yards and a touchdown this season at tight end for the NFC Champions.
Sciullo, now in only his second season in the NFL, has seen action in 15 games and started five at guard for the Eagles. Sciullo, who blocked for Byron Leftwich during his collegiate career, is making his first Super Bowl appearance.
