Women's Golf Season Gets Underway in Arizona

RIO VERDE, Ariz. ? The Marshall women?s golf team opens the 2005 season at the third annual East/West Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational at Rio Verde Country Club?s White Wing course from Thursday through Saturday.

The Thundering Herd is one of 18 teams in this year?s field. Marshall joins Ark.-Little Rock, Bowling Green, Bradley, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana State, North Texas, Ohio, SW Missouri State, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Western Michigan and Xavier.

The format is a three-day, 54-hole event with the first and second rounds beginning with shotgun starts at 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Saturday?s final round commences at 8 a.m.

Western Michigan is serving as the event?s host. Kent State won last year?s Rio Verde Invitational with a score of two-day score of 604, while the Herd finished in a three-way tie for eighth with a total of 630.

Rio Verde Country Club is a 6,074-yard, par 71 layout. This is the first year that the event is arranged as a 54-hole tournament.
