CLEVELAND ? For the first time in her career, freshman Rachel Folden (Baldwin Park, Calif.) has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week in the East Division, announced by the league office on Monday.
Folden, a member of the 2005 Buckeye Invitational All-Tournament team, batted a stellar .629 (9-for-13) this weekend as Marshall went 3-1 in Columbus. The freshman slugged four doubles and a home run en route to 10 RBI and five runs in four games of work. She batted a perfect 3-for-3 in wins versus Oakland and Notre Dame while tallying two doubles in MU?s loss to the host-Buckeyes. In addition to her three hits versus OU, Folden collected a career-high four RBI to lead the Herd in the win.
?Rachel put together a tremendous weekend,? head coach Shonda Stanton said. ?She came through for us in several clutch situations and was a big reason why we came away with three wins in Columbus.?
Folden boasts team-bests this season in batting average (.466), doubles (8), RBI (27) and slugging percentage (.699).
