CLEVELAND ? After grabbing a second place finish at the East Carolina Pirate Clash this weekend, the Marshall softball team garnered two more awards on Monday, as Randi Nielson was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week and Amanda Williams was chosen MAC East Player of the Week, announced by the league office.

Nielson (5-3) tallied three wins in this weekend?s tournament and also notched a save. Her .75 ERA in the three-day affair at ECU was her best performance this season. The senior from Tucson, Ariz. gave up only two earned runs and struck out 17 in nearly 19 innings on the mound.

A. Williams, a two-time All-MAC First-Team honoree, batted .400 for MU as the Herd went 5-2 in North Carolina. She provided a spark at several crucial points in the tournament, totaling four RBI and four runs in three days of work. The Powder Springs, Ga., native, tallied ten hits in 25 attempts to lead the Herd offense. The junior outfielder also swiped six bases.

?Both of these awards are well-deserved and we are very proud of the seasons that they are putting together so far this year,? head coach Shonda Stanton said.

Marshall will play at home for the first time this season as it plays host to the Ramada Classic March 11-13.
