HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Thundering Herd will host the 36th Annual Marshall Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Guyan Golf and Country Club.
Fifteen teams will participate in this weekend's 54-hole event, which begins Friday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday, with the final 18 holes taking place on Saturday. Saturday's play begins at 8 a.m. off of the #1 and #10 tees.
Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Louisville, Marquette, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Ohio, the University of Charleston, Wright State, Xavier, and the host Thundering Herd will all be on the course Thursday for a practice round, which begins at 9 a.m.
Guyan Golf and Country Club will be set up at 6,446 yards and a par of 71. Team scores for the tournament will be determined by counting the best four of five scores for each round.
Ohio State is the defending champion after posting a team score of 847 in 2004 (292-277-278). Buckeye Kevin Hall claimed medalist honors and set a new 54-hole tournament record with a 206 (73-68-65) last April.
Marshall finished in third place in 2004, including a second place finish by then-senior Burke Spensky. This year, sophomore Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) and freshman Chris Tipper (Parkersburg, W.Va.) lead the Thundering Herd into the Marshall Invitational with stroke averages of 74.12 and 74.76, respectively.
Results will be posted on HerdZone.com as soon as they are available.
