Kever Named C-USA Tennis Player of the Week

Irving, Texas - In her first week of dual matches with the Thundering Herd, junior Lynzee Kever was named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week after successful outing against Richmond, Wright State and No. 13 ranked Kentucky.
"We're very excited for Lynzee," Marshall head coach John Mercer said. "She got off to a good start in her first week. She's finally starting to play at the level she's capable of and hopefully it will lead into a successful season for her and the team."
Kever, who transferred from the University of Colorado, had an impressive week last week, going 3-0 in No. 1 doubles and 2-1 in No. 1 singles against Richmond, Wright State and No. 13 ranked Kentucky. On Friday, Kever and partner Kellie Schmitt went 2-0 in doubles as they posted an 8-5 win over Beatrice Grasu and Meghan Wolfgram of Richmond and an 8-1 win over Tiffani Foster and Audra Beckett of Wright State. On Saturday, Kever and Schmitt pulled off an 8-4 upset win over Kim Coventry and Laura Maurer to help the Herd take the doubles point against No. 13 ranked Kentucky. Coventry is ranked No. 18 in doubles in the first preseason poll with Joelle Schwenk.
In singles action, Kever downed No. 74 ranked Pamela Duran of Richmond, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the Herd's 5-2 win over the Spiders. Kever then downed Tiffani Foster 6-2, 6-1 of Wright State in the Herd's 7-0 win over Wright State. On Saturday, the Edmond, Okla., native suffered her only loss against No. 53 ranked Coventry of UK, 6-0, 6-4 in the Herd's 5-2 loss to the Wildcats. Marshall will be in action on Jan. 31, against Youngstown State and Eastern Kentucky.
"It was a good week and I'm glad I started off well," Kever said. "Hopefully I'll continue to play well and help the team win and improve throughout the season."
Kever and the Thundering Herd will be back in action next Tuesday against Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m. and Youngstown State at 4 p.m.
Marshall is 2-1 on the season.
