Men's Golf Completes Fall Season At Xavier Invitational Monday

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Thundering Herd will compete in the 15th Annual Xavier Invitational this Monday and Tuesday at the Oasis Golf Club in Loveland, Ohio, in its final fall tournament of 2006.
The par-72, 6,921-yard Oasis course, which serves as the home to the Xavier men's golf team, is hosting the Invitational for the third consecutive year. Last season, Austin Peay and Xavier tied for low-team honors with an 843 score, but the Governors downed the hosts in a one-hole playoff. XU's John Streibich was the individual medalist with a 202 (67-67-68) in 2005.
Marshall, who finished last year's tournament in 18th place, is led by senior Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine), who is coming off a third place finish in the Herd's last tournament at the Adams Cup of Newport. Other participants for MU at the event are Jonathan Pepe (McKeesport, Pa.), Nathan Kinker (Barboursville, W.Va.), Christian Brand (Charleston, W.Va.), and Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.).
This year's field includes Akron, Austin Peay, Ball State, Bowling Green, Campbell, Davidson, Drake (2005 NCAA Regional), Eastern Kentucky (2005 NCAA Regional), Eastern Michigan (2005 NCAA Regional), Marquette, Marshall, Maryland (2005 NCAA Regional), Miami, Northern Illinois, New Orleans, Western Illinois (2005 NCAA Regional), Wichita State (2005 NCAA Regional), and host Xavier (2005 NCAA Regional).
The 54 holes of play begin Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Monday's format consists of 36 holes of stroke play, with the final 18 holes being contested on Tuesday.
