HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Karim Boukhemis (Sr., Huntington, W.Va.) and Erin Johnson (So., Mansfield, Ohio), of the men's and women's soccer teams, respectively, each earned a spot on the 2006 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 Team, announced Thursday by the organization. Boukhemis was named to the men's first team while Johnson was a second-team selection on the women's team. With his first-team recognition, Boukhemis now will be on the Academic All-America ballot.
The Academic All-District 2 Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within the district.
Boukhemis owns a 3.66 grade point average with a biology major. He also was named Third-Team All-Conference USA and to the Academic All-Conference USA squad this week.
Boukhemis scored five goals this year and ended with 15 for his career, tying him with Kirk Gibson (2002-05) and Shawn Sizemore (1990-93) for 10th in Marshall history. Boukhemis also had two assists this season, including the assist on the game-winning goal in the upset victory over then-No. 11 South Carolina.
Johnson, also named to the 2006 Conference USA All-Academic Team, holds a 4.0 grade point average in bio-medical sciences with a minor in chemistry. On the field, Johnson started all 17 games for the Thundering Herd, scored two goals and tallied two assists as the anchor in the midfield this season.
Off the field, Johnson is a John Marshall Scholar, Marshall Honor Student and a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Society of Honor and Service.
