Marshall's Cody Slate Named First-Team Freshman All-American

Marshall University tight end Cody Slate has been named a first-team freshman All-American by The Sporting News and College Football News.com.
Slate is Marshall's first Sporting News first-team freshman All-American selection. The Thundering Herd's Josh Davis was named a third-team freshman All-American by TSN in 2001. Marshall defensive end Albert McClellan was a College Football News.com honorable mention freshman All-American in 2005.
The true freshman from Chipley, Fla., led all Conference USA tight ends in receiving with 43 catches for 684 yards and six touchdowns. He was also the top pass catching freshman in the conference regardless of position in 2006 and currently leads all freshman tight ends in the nation in receiving yards.
Slate was named first-team all C-USA by the league's media and earned C-USA all-freshman recognition from both the league's media and head coaches.
