HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University head volleyball coach Mitch Jacobs announced that local standout Taylor Strickland will be joining the Herd in 2006.

Strickland comes to the Thundering Herd after a decorated playing career at nearby Spring Valley High School. While playing for the Timberwolves, Strickland garnered AAA All-State honors, along with a slew of other accolades.

"We're very excited to have a player of Taylor's caliber from the state of West Virginia come to join our program," Jacobs said. "Taylor's talent level speaks for itself. We look for her ability in the back row to help us and she could potentially set for us in the future."

Strickland was a four-year starter at Spring Valley and team captain for three years. In her senior year, on top of being All-State, she was a member of the WVRSN Dynamic Dozen, First-team All Mountain State Athletic Conference, a Wendy's High School Heisman winner and she was on three all-tournament teams.

In her junior season, she was first team All-MSAC and WVRSN First-Team All-State. She was honorable mention All-State in her sophomore and freshman seasons.

Strickland will be the Herd's lone West Virginian on the roster in 2006.

"It's really fun to see the level of volleyball in our community on the rise between the success of the Marshall program and the strides made by the club volleyball teams," Jacobs said. "Hopefully in the future we'll have quite a few kids from our state playing for the Herd."

Strickland will be joining a team that graduated three seniors from the 2005 squad that captured the Conference USA Regular Season and Tournament titles and made the Herd's first NCAA appearance since 1995.
