HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall women's soccer program has announced the award-winning players from the 2005 season. All of the winning players were given the honor by their fellow teammates at the conclusion of the season.

Winning the highest honor, Player of the Year, was senior Jaime Gruber (Hudson, Ohio). Gruber was a captain for the 2004 and 2005 season. During the 2005 season she started all 17 games she played in. Gruber was also honored by her teammates with the Heart and Soul Award.

Earning Newcomers of the Year were freshmen Erin Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) and Ali Lizotte (Eglin, S.C.). Johnson led the team in points (18), goals (3), shots (19) and shots on goal (12). Lizotte started 17 of 18 games for Marshall and supplied one assist on the season.

Johnson also won Offensive MVP and the Top of the Herd award. The Top of the Herd Award is given to the player that wins a season-long competition. The competition awards points to players based on their play during each of the Herd's games.

Senior goalkeeper Kai Nordness (Burnsville, Minn.) earned the Defensive MVP honor. Nordness played all but 62 minutes of the season and made 97 saves. Nordness finished her career ranked number one for Marshall goalkeepers for saves in a single season and career and also for shutouts in a career.
