CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Cold and rain did not stop Marshall University's football team from putting together a solid practice before a dedicated crowd of around 200 fans at UC Stadium in Charleston on Saturday.
"Considering the conditions this was a great atmosphere and a good crowd," Marshall junior running back Ahmad Bradshaw said. "It was great of these fans to come out and I wanted to show them what I can do and what we are capable of."
Marshall's standout running back did not disappoint in his Charleston appearance. The second-team all conference selection from a year ago ripped off several strong runs and displayed an uncanny ability to break tackles throughout the practice.
Thundering Herd head coach Mark Snyder was generally pleased with the workout and emphasized that there is plenty of work ahead as the Herd continues into the second half of its spring practice slate.
"This was a very useful practice," Snyder said. "I saw some good things out there today and a couple of guys caught my attention. Spring practice gives you a chance to see the young guys, evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and build depth and that is what we are doing."
The trip to Charleston also gave the football team the opportunity to give back to fans in the Kanawha Valley. Earlier in the day, a group of Marshall players visited children at Charleston Area Medical Center's Womens and Children's Hospital and following the practice all Marshall players and coaches signed autographs for fans.
Marshall has conducted off-campus spring practices for the last several years in various locations across the state. This year's Kanawha Valley practice was hosted by the Marshall University Quarterback Club of Charleston.
