Folden Named Conference USA Hitter of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year Rachel Folden (Baldwin Park, Calif./Diamond Bar) was named the C-USA Hitter of the Week Monday, as announced by the conference office.

For Folden, it is her second weekly accolade this season as she was named C-USA Co-Hitter of the Week March 6. It is the Herd's fourth C-USA weekly honor this season and the second in a row. Last week, senior Amanda Williams (Powder Springs, Ga./Harrison) was named C-USA Hitter of the Week.

Folden tied the C-USA single-season record for home runs with her 18th blast of the season in the Herd's 3-1 series-clinching win over Memphis. She finished the weekend 7-for-11 with the record-tying homer and four RBI. In the Herd's 9-5 game one victory Saturday, Folden went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. She also went 2-for-3 in both the Herd's 7-2 loss Saturday and series finale win Sunday.

Folden bettered her season batting average to a team-best .382 clip in addition to her 18 home runs and 54 RBI. Folden is second on the team in hits (60) and tied for third in doubles (11). Folden's 18th home run gave her the school's career home run lead (27) heading into the C-USA tournament. In conference play, Folden finished with a .408 average, seven home runs and 23 RBI, falling one home run shy of tying the conference record for homers in C-USA play.

The Marshall Thundering Herd finished its regular season schedule with a 31-22 overall record and a 15-9 mark in conference play. Marshall returns to the field May 11-13 to participate in the 2006 Conference USA Softball Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
