FALMOUTH, Maine - Rising senior Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) added to his summer's list of accomplishments over the weekend when he qualified for the U.S. Amateur with a top-three finish at sectional qualifying at Atkinson Country Club in Atkinson, N.H.

Warren notched a two-day total of 143, six strokes behind Trevor Murphy, who captured the sectional championship.

Earlier this month, Warren won the 87th Maine Amateur at the Portland Country Club by six strokes on July 13, becoming only the second player to win both the Maine Open and Maine Amateur. Warren captured the Maine Open in 2004.

Warren joined Jim Veno as the only golfers to win the state open and state amateur.

Warren and former Marshall player and current volunteer assistant coach Pat Carter will compete at the U.S. Amateur on August 21-27 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. Carter recently qualified for this year's U.S. Amateur, his 11th overall, with a sectional qualifying win at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston, W.Va.
