Marshall Volleyball to Face Xavier Wednesday

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Marshall University Thundering Herd volleyball team will begin the second week of the season on the road traveling to Cincinnati taking on Xavier. The Herd (1-2)will take on the Musketeers (2-1) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 30.

Marshall will be joined by junior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad), who was victorious over the weekend for Trinidad and Tobago in winning the gold medal at the Caribbean Volleyball Championship.

In Billingy's absence, junior Chelsea Lazar (Palm Harbor, Fla.) stepped up to obtain career highs as the Appalachian Classic. This season, Lazar is off to a blazing start, averaging 3.42 kills per game, a hitting percentage of .493 and 13 blocks.

Marshall's defense has been led by a duo of Indianapolis, Ind. juniors, Uche Ndubisi and Maggie Arias. Ndubisi leads the squad in blocks with 16 and is coming off a career-high nine against Middle Tennessee. Arias has recorded 49 digs, averaging 4.08 per game and also is coming off a career-high 32 digs against Radford, sixth best all-time in a single match at Marshall.

Herd newcomers Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas) and Emily Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio) have both made impacts for the Herd. Marcum is second on the squad with 38 kills and 42 digs. Sullivan has compiled 37 kills so far, ranking her third at third most on the team.

Christin Bimberg (Schwerin, Germany) and Katherine Poss (Newnan, Ga.) have filled the setting duties for the Herd. Both players offer multiple looks for their team. Bimberg completed the season's first triple-double for Marshall and Conference USA. She went for 11 digs, 10 kills and 14 assists against Radford. In the same match, Poss set a career mark with 63 assists, 14 digs, four blocks and seven kills.

Marshall is 4-11 all-time against the Musketeers. The last meeting came in 2003 with Xavier taking the victory, 3-1.
