CINCINNATI - Xavier University's (3-1) duo of Astyn Bjorklund and Jill Quayle helped lead the Musketeers to a 3-1 (30-20, 30-32, 30-13, 30-13) victory over the Marshall University volleyball team (1-3) Wednesday night.

Bjorklund's 16 kills and .429 hitting percentage were nearly matched by her teammate Quayle and her 15 kills and .440 percentage.

The Thundering Herd's top player in kills was Cincinnati native Emily Sullivan who posted 10 on the night. The freshman also chimed in with two digs and a block.

Defensively, Marshall was led by junior Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.) with her seven blocks.

Marshall had tied the match 1-1 after the second game but was unable to gather enough steam to follow-up.

Herd head coach Mitch Jacobs said the team will continue to work to improve. "In game two we felt like we were getting somewhere; but without a single person on the floor in the position they normally play, we haven't been able to sustain momentum," he said.

The Herd will be traveling next to Bloomington, Ind. for the TIS Bookstore Classic. Marshall's first match will be 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, against Indiana University. The Herd will face Maryland and Chicago State on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. respectively.
