Marshall Set to Compete in TIS Bookstore Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Marshall University volleyball team is on the campus of Indiana University for the opening round of the TIS Bookstore Invitational. The Thundering Herd (1-3) will face the host Hoosiers (3-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept.1. The Herd's Saturday schedule will feature Maryland at 10 a.m. and Chicago State at 4:30 p.m. to conclude play.

The Herd's offense has been led so far this season by the trio of Chelsea Lazar (Palm Harbor, Fla.), Emily Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas). Lazar's .340 hitting percentage and 48 kills lead the team, while the freshmen, Sullivan and Marcum, have produced 47 and 43 kills respectively.

Defensively, Marcum has stepped in with 51 digs, second most on the team only behind libero Maggie Arias' (Indianapolis, Ind.) 68. The Herd is also getting support at the net with Lazar, Katherine Poss (Newnan, Ga.) and Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.) all with double digit block totals. Ndubisi leads Conference USA with 23 blocks so far this season.

The Hoosiers are coming off a victorious weekend at the West Virginia Tournament. The Hoosiers dispatched WVU, Oakland and Akron 3-0 over the weekend. This will be the second meeting between the Herd and Hoosiers. The first meeting came in 1975 with Indiana taking the victory.
