Thundering Herd Volleyball Set to Begin Conference Play

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Marshall University Thundering Herd volleyball team will open up Conference USA play at the East Carolina Classic this weekend.
The Herd's (5-6) first match will come against C-USA opponent East Carolina (6-5) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14. Friday's match will feature the Herd facing Grambling State (3-6) at 5 p.m. and then on Saturday Marshall will play Wisconsin - Green Bay (4-4) at 10 a.m.
Marshall will be going into the weekend with C-USA's reigning Setter of the Week in Christin Bimberg. She helped lead the Herd to a 3-1 week last week with wins over Miami (Ohio), Pittsburgh and Lehigh. In three of the four matches from last week she recorded 40-plus assists.
The Herd's Kelly-Anne Billingy broke the all-time school record for kills. Her total is now 1,391 distancing her from the previous record of 1,350. Billingy leads C-USA in two statistical categories. Her 6.3 kills per and 7.26 points per game are tops in the league.
Marshall will look to remain undefeated all-time against East Carolina and Wisconsin - Green Bay going a combined 4-0. As for Grambling State, this is the first ever meeting between the Herd and the Tigers.
