Herd Volleyball Travels to Pitt Invitational

PITTSBURGH - The Marshall Thundering Herd volleyball team is back on the road this weekend at the Pitt Invitational, where the Herd (3-5) will open up play against Lehigh (0-7) Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Herd is 1-0 all-time against the Mountain Hawks.
Marshall stand-out Kelly-Anne Billingy is approaching a school milestone in career kills. Averaging better than 5.6 kills per game, Billingy could overtake the top spot against Lehigh.
Currently, the record is owned by former Herd great Alisha Bable (1995-97) with 1,350 kills. Billingy trails Bable by 14 behind with 1,336.
The Herd is coming off two consecutive victories. Marshall defeated Chicago State 3-0 Saturday and then a 3-1 win over Miami (Ohio) in its home opener Tuesday night.
For day two of the Pitt Invitational, Marshall will be facing it's first top-ranked opponent since Sept. 17, 2005, when the Herd faced then No. 4 Penn State.
Saturday the Herd will face No. 11 Tennessee (5-1) at 10:30 a.m. Marshall has met the Lady Vols one other time. In 1971, and the Lady Vols topped the Herd 2-1.
In the afternoon session Saturday Marshall will face-off against host Pitt at 7:30 p.m. Marshall is looking to get its first win against Pitt as well. The Herd and Panthers have met four times in the past, most recently in 2005 with Pitt taking the victory 3-0.
Following its trip to Pittsburgh, the Herd will return to action Thursday, Sept. 14 at East Carolina.
