Men's Golf Finishes First Day of Belmont Fall Shootout

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - The Marshall men's golf team is in 11th place after the first 36 holes of the Belmont Fall Shootout on Monday, with sophomore Christian Brand (Charleston, W.Va.) in a tie for 15th place after rounds of 76 and 70 at the 7,043-yard, par-72 Nashville Golf and Athletic Club.

Brand's 146 puts him eight strokes behind leader Craig Voorhees of Miami (Ohio), who fired a 138 (71-67), in the Herd's final event of the fall season. Another Mid-American Conference golfer, Ball State's Andrew Rhodes, and Jacob Scott of Cleveland State are tied with Brand for 15th.

Redshirt sophomore Phil DiLorenzo (Wellsburg, W.Va.), making his first start of the season, posted the second-best round for a Marshall golfer with his opening-round 73. He followed with a 78 for a total of 151, the next best MU score behind Brand.

Akron (576) leads the tournament, with Marshall sitting with a 608 in the 12-team field. Cleveland State (580) is in second with host Belmont is in last place with a 612.

The Belmont Fall Shootout will conclude with the final 18 holes, beginning at 8 a.m., on Tuesday.
