"We played tonight the best we have all year," Marshall head coach Chris Kane said. "Tonight was a team effort."
Marshall's sophomore captain goalkeeper Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) broke her personal best single-season saves record of 79, after tallying 10 saves Friday. Thus far for the season, Orton has a total of 84 saves with three season games remaining.
The Herd's sophomore forward Molly Snead (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Herd with fantastic play tonight by recording her fourth goal of the season. Freshman midfielder Marisa Leconte (Greer, S.C.) assisted with two shots with one being placed on goal.
UTEP's Jami Tullius tallied both goals for the Miners with the first off a penalty kick in the 59th minute, which led the game into overtime. For the win, Tullius finished the game in the 92nd minute with an unassisted loose ball rebound drilled into the back of the net.
"Even though UTEP is a good team," coach Kane added. "Our loss was unfortunate and we deserved better."
The Miners outshot the Herd 21-9, with 12 being placed on goal and continue to lead the series against the Herd, 2-0.
"We need to recharge before heading to Colorado on Sunday," coach Kane continued.
Marshall will finish its final season road trip against C-USA opponent Colorado College (8-4-3 overall; 3-2-1 C-USA) at Stewart Field on Sunday, Oct. 28, with kick-off set for 2 p.m. ET.
