HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – For the first time since the 2019 season, Marshall Women's Soccer (3-1-2) squares off with a Top-10 squad, traveling to Morgantown to face No. 7 WVU (4-0).

COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in his third season leading the MU Women's Soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes and the Herd had a resurgent 2025 season. In his second year as skipper for MU, Simoes led the team to win its most games in a decade (8) with four All-Conference selections, also the program's most since 2015.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- Marshall forward Wiktoria Mikrut is the reigning Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week. In two matches last week at Belmont and UT Martin, Mikrut scored three goals and tallied a match-winning assist off a corner kick. The Poland native also registered a season-high nine shots Thursday.
- Junior goalkeeper Emma Durand and the MU defense have posted consecutive shutouts. Durand now has eight career shutouts, 6th all-time in program history.
- Nine different Herd players have registered an assist this season.
- MU is 0-8-1 against ranked opponents all-time, with a 0-4 record against Top-10 foes. The last Marshall contest against a ranked team was in 2019, a 3-2 double overtime loss at No. 9 Vanderbilt. The Herd's draw came in a Conference USA match against No. 16 UCF on Oct. 7, 2011.
ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
- WVU Women's Soccer is commemorating its 30th season as a program in 2026 and is celebrating accordingly, with a 4-0 start and a No. 7 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Junior Sophia Nickel paces the team with three goals and an assist.
- Head Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown has been the only coach in the program's history, leading the team to 24 NCAA Tournament appearances and 18 regular season and conference titles.
- Marshall seeks its first win in program history against WVU. The Mountaineers hold a 5-0 all-time advantage including a 2-0 win last year in Huntington, a game in which MU Women's Soccer set an all-time standalone single-game attendance record of 1,261.
