Herd Plays to Goalless Draw Thursday Evening against Murray State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall Women's Soccer (3-1-2) dominated the possession, shots, and corner kick count, but was ultimately held to a goalless draw by Murray State on a scorching Thursday evening at Hoops Family Field.
The Herd was the more threatening side all evening, with reigning Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week Wiktoria Mikrut leading the way with a season-high nine shots. MU's 18 shots outpaced Murray State's five. The Herd had seven corners, while preventing the Racers from a single attempt from the corner.
The result remains the second-consecutive shutout for Coach Rafa Simoes, goalkeeper Emma Durand, and Marshall.
"We had 18 shots and eight corners so we produced," said Coach Simoes. "I said to the team that sometimes you can control the performance but you can't control the result. Today we got the game we wanted. We outpossessed, we had entries in the box, we built the cake but couldn't finish the job. I was still proud of the performance of the team, another clean sheet, our second in a row and that is something we have been trying to improve."

The goalless draw is the first at home under Coach Simoes. It is also the first match in Huntington to not feature a breakthrough since the fall 2021 season.
Marshall remains unbeaten at home this season and will finish its home non-conference games with a 2-0-1 record.
The Herd will next travel to No. 7 WVU for a Sunday evening tilt. Kick is set for 7 p.m.
"WVU is a team that is going to test us very well before the conference," added Coach Simoes. "I think it comes at a time where we already have a lot of games and it comes two weeks before conference so I think it is the perfect time to see where we are. We know it is a tough environment and a really good team."
