HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team recently announced the addition of four student-athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent.

The signees include West Virginia natives Susan Waldie, Meredith O'Malley, and Cameron Yoho, in addition to Minnesota resident, Megan Carlson.

"It is exciting to have three West Virginia natives coming in on scholarship that should look to make an immediate impact," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "It really emphasizes the strength of our program that players do not want to go out of state like they have in the past."

Waldie (a 5-foot-11-inch outside hitter), the 2006 WV Gatorade Player of the Year and teammate O'Malley (a 6-foot-4-inch middle blocker) attend George Washington High School and reside in Charleston, W.Va. The duo are also teammates on the River Cities Thunder Junior's volleyball club.

"Waldie is probably the best player in the state. She possesses an excellent vertical leap, plays solid defense and is a good blocker."

"O'Malley will be the tallest volleyball player we have ever had at Marshall," Jacobs said. "She's very quick and will be a good addition in the middle. She has a quick arm which translates into a very hard hit ball.

Already proven winners with two high school state championships, experience in winning should prove beneficial to the Thundering Herd next season. "[Waldie and O'Malley] had an undefeated year as juniors and were upset this year," Jacobs said. "They had two previous championships together and that will give us three West Virginia players with five total state championships."

Yoho, The 2007 Class AA sportswriters player of the year from Sisterville, W.Va., attends Tyler Consolidated High School. The 6-foot-1-inch middle blocker played club ball for the West Virginia Juniors.

"Yoho might have the fastest feet of anyone I have ever coached, and that includes Uche Ndubisi," Jacobs explained. "She is extremely quick, her agility is amazing and she is coming off this years state championship so already she is a proven winner."

Rounding out the four signees is Carlson, who hails from Andover, Minn., and attends Andover High School. The 5-foot-10-inch outside hitter played for the M1 squad.

"I am extremely excited about Carlson," Jacobs said. "She is one of the finest female athletes I have ever seen. She can do everything. She is an outstanding passer, a great hitter, has excellent block timing for her size, and is just as solid an all-around volleyball player. Of the four incoming signees I expect Megan to make the easiest adjustment to Division I Volleyball."

Carlson, O'Malley and Yoho are all listed in The Prep Volleyball prestigious top 250 seniors, while Waldie is listed in the "the next 50". "This class on paper will be the highest rated class we have signed amongst our six recruiting classes." Stated Jacobs..."How could you not be excited about our program's future."
