Women's Soccer Announces 2007 Recruiting Class

HUNTINGTON - Marshall University women's soccer coach Chris Kane has announced the signing of six student-athletes. The class of 2007 is comprised of six players representing four states and two foreign countries, and includes Hurricane High standout Bethany Bush.

"I'm extremely excited about these six players and I'm looking forward to working with them for the next four years," Kane said. "This is a very versatile class and all of these players will be able to come in and contribute right away. The class is very balanced and many of the newcomers could play elsewhere on the pitch which will allow us to try a number of different combinations."

A biographical capsule on each student-athlete follows in alphabetical order.

Kristen Berquist
• 5'10 Defender
• Highland Village, Texas
• D'Feeters Soccer Club & Marcus HS

A Four-year varsity starter at Marcus HS...2005 State Champions, 2006 State Semi-Finalist...A 2006 All-District Defender...Member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, All A Honor Roll.

Quoting Coach Kane: "Kristen has great size and athleticism and has the ability to make an immediate impact for us in C-USA. She is a very aggressive defender who likes to get forward in the attack."

Bethany Bush

The W.Va. Class AAA 2006 Attacking Player of the Year...Two-Time All-State selection, three-time All-Conference pick, two-time All-Charleston Daily Mail and 2003 Freshman of the Year...Four-year varsity starter at Hurricane HS where she scored 102 career goals...Member of 2003 & 2005 W.Va. State Club Champions...Member of the 1988 W.Va. ODP team...Member of the National Honor Society & FCA.

Missy Gordon
• 5'5 Forward

Three-time Indiana State Champion with Crossfire, Three-time Region 2 Semifinalists and Four-time National League Champions...All-County & two-time All-District selection...2004 IHSAA State Tournament MVP of Final Four and 2004 State Champions...Nationally-ranked High School team in 2004 & 2005...High Honor Roll Student.

Sammy Hare
• 5'7 Midfielder
• Livingston Village, Scotland, UK
• Lee University transfer

Started in the midfield as a freshman for the NAIA power that progressed to the Quarterfinals of the National tournament...Scored five goals and assisted on 13 others as a freshman...Member of the u17 and u19 National teams for Scotland...Participated in Qualifying for u19 European Championship in 2006...Played for Newburgh LFC in the Scottish Premier League before coming to the U.S.

She is an extremely tenacious athlete who is relentless on the pitch. Her understanding of the game will be invaluable to the program. Emma Harrison

• U20 New Zealand National Team
• Parents: Marilyn and Paul Harrison

Harrison, a midfielder/defender from Queensland, NZ, played on the 2006 New Zealand U20 World Cup squad that competed in Russia last fall...She was a member of the national U16 team, the New Zealand U16 Academy team, and played on the NZ Senior Elite Academy Training Squad from 2003-2006...enrolled in January and is currently training with the team. Quoting Coach Kane - "We're really excited to have someone like Emma join our program. Her work rate, intensity and her passion for the game will help us achieve greater success in Conference USA. Having an entire semester to get acclimated to the style of play and the academic demands will also help with her transition."

Marisa Leconte
• 5'3 Midfielder

• Carolina Elite Soccer Academy & Spartanburg Day School
• Parents: Mary Ellen & Ken Leconte

A three-time All-State midfielder, three-time Conference Player of the Year, and three-time first-team All-Conference selection...S.C. State ODP team, Region III Pool...Three-time State Club Champion w/ CESA and two-time Region III Quarterfinalist...Comes from the same club as current Herd players Ali Lizotte & Meghan Wetzel.
