BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. - The Marshall Thundering Herd women's tennis team dropped its second match of the season falling to Virginia 5-2 on Saturday at the Huntington Tennis Club.

The Herd (2-2) began the match by dropping the doubles point 2-1 to Virginia (2-1). The lone Marshall doubles win came on court three with Karolina Soor and Thaddea Lock winning 8-6 over Britney Larson and Maggie Yahner.

Marshall's 35th-ranked doubles team of Lynzee Kever and Kellie Schmitt suffered their first loss of the season to Kristen McVitty and Jennifer Stevens, 8-6.

"We were a little frustrated with losing the doubles point but obviously we were playing a good team who is very talented," Marshall head coach John Mercer said. "We've played better doubles in the past and we just couldn't get clicking today. I think Virginia will have a great year and collect a lot of wins in their conference."

On the singles side in the No. 1 position No. 18 Schmitt remains unbeaten knocking off Britney Larson 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 2 spot Karolina Soor defeated Kristin McVitty 6-3, 6-3.

"On the positive side we had two great wins by Kellie and Karolina in singles," Mercer said. "I'm sure the players they played will have a great year in the ACC. We just hope we can bounce back in the morning."

"Hopefully we can play with confidence tomorrow and play a more solid and complete match."

Marshall will be back in action with a doubleheader Sunday taking on Davidson at noon and then at 5 p.m. against Youngstown State.
