Marshall Tennis Prepares for No. 37 Penn and WVU

PHILADELPHIA - The Marshall Thundering Herd women's tennis team will be hitting the road for the second time this season when it travels to No. 37 Pennsylvania on Friday and intrastate rival West Virginia on Sunday.

The 59th-ranked Herd (4-2) will begin the weekend with a 3 p.m. start against Penn (2-0) on Friday at Levy Pavilion. The match will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs and will be the Herd's third ranked opponent of the season.

On Sunday the Herd will travel back to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers (2-2) in Morgantown for a 1 p.m. start. The Herd owns the all-time record with WVU , 7-3.

Marshall's Kellie Schmitt, Karolina Soor and Thaddea Lock have claimed five victories in singles play so far this season. Lock and Soor remain the Herd's only doubles team to remain undefeated with a 4-0 record. Ranked No. 35, Schmitt and partner Lynzee Kever have a 5-1 record with a victory over third-ranked Kentucky.

Also for the Herd, Jessica Keener's record stands at 2-0 in singles, Jeanne Schwartz is at 3-2 and Yulia Kashelkina is 3-3 in singles competition. In doubles Kashelkina and Keener own a 3-1 record.

The pair of matches scheduled for this week is the first of back-to-back weekend road trips for the Herd. Marshall will be taking on 25th-ranked William and Mary on Friday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va., and at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, the Herd will battle The Ohio State University.
