SAN DIEGO - The Marshall Thundering Herd women's tennis team will be competing in its first matches in more than a week when it takes on Yale and San Diego.
The Herd (11-7) fell out of the ITA/FILA rankings for the first time this season after a 5-2 loss to Richmond, but the Herd looks to get back on the winning side of things opening up with Yale (4-6) on March 21 at 1 p.m. ET at the Barnes Tennis Center. The match will be the first between the two schools.
Friday the Herd will take on the San Diego Toreros (3-12) at 1 p.m. ET at the Barnes Tennis Center for the conclusion of its road trip. Marshall has faced San Diego one other time, in 2005 the Toreros were victorious 5-2.
The Herd's Kellie Schmitt could tie the Marshall single season victory mark with two wins. Currently the sophomore stands at 31 for the fall and spring seasons putting her in a tie for second with Jennifer Mele's 1997 total. Former Herd great Anna Mitina holds the top spot with 33 victories, which she set in 2000.
Schmitt's combined victories for the season currently have her firmly in the 13th spot with 51.
