TEXARKANA, Ark. - The Thundering Herd men's golf team will participate in the 2007 Conference USA Championships this Sunday through Tuesday at the Texarkana County Club in Texarkana, Ark.
Marshall will play with the ten other league members that sponsor men's golf at the par-72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club. Tulsa, who enters the tournament ranked 16th out of 284 Division I teams in the latest Golf Week National Poll, is the highest ranked squad in C-USA. Three other teams crack the top-50 in UAB (39), UCF (41), and SMU (46), and two others are in the top 100 in Houston (73) and Memphis (88). Other teams participating and their respective rankings are East Carolina (109), UTEP (128), Southern Miss (138), Rice (143), and Marshall (154). As a whole, Conference USA is the sixth-toughest conference in the country.
The Thundering Herd, which finished 10th in their inaugural appearance in the Conference USA Championships in 2006, is led by senior Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine), who should break the all-time scoring average record at Marshall after next week's play. Other Marshall players making the trip are freshman Christian Brand (Charleston, W.Va.), junior Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.), redshirt freshman Phil DiLorenzo (Wellston, W.Va.), and senior Brandon Katzeff (Uniontown, Pa.).
Play begins on the number one tee on Sunday at 8 a.m. with the first 18 holes, with 18 holes also being played on Monday and Tuesday. Fixed tee times begin on the number one tee on Monday, and play begins on number one and ten on Tuesday.
