Marshall Men's Golf To Host 38th Annual Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON - The Marshall men's golf team will host the 38th Annual Marshall Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Guyan Golf and Country Club in Barboursville. The 16-team, 54-hole event is scheduled to begin Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.

This year's tournament is sponsored by Pepsi, WSAZ-TV, the International Union of Operating Engineers - Local #132, Eagle Distributing, Huntington Federal Savings Bank, Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Co., Laborers' Local #543, and Steel of West Virginia.

Guyan Golf and Country Club will host the event and will be set up at 6,476 yards and a par of 71. Play will begin on Friday, April 6, with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. EST. On Saturday, April 7, play begins at 8 a.m. on the #1 and #10 tees. Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday, with the final 18 taking place on Saturday. Team scores for the tournament will be determined by counting the best four (4) of five (5) scores for each round.

Fifteen teams will compete with the Thundering Herd in this weekend's event: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, James Madison, Marquette, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Ohio, Penn State, Richmond, William and Mary, and Wright State will tee it up with Marshall Friday.

Eastern Michigan is the defending champion after firing a three-round total of 868 in 2006. Ball State finished in second place with an 878, and Marshall finished in third place with an 880. Eastern Michigan's Peter Saurbrei defeated the Herd's Shawn Warren in the first playoff hole to capture medalist honors at last year's tournament. Both Saurbrei and Warren fired a three-round total of 213.
