BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. - The Ball State Cardinals lead the Marshall Invitational after the first round with a two-under par, 282, three strokes better than second place Penn State. The first day of the tournament at the Guyan Golf and Country Club, scheduled for 36 holes, was halted with three holes to play because of snow.

Penn State's Kevin Foley and Marquette's Mike Van Sickle lead all individuals after posting three-under 68's in the morning round in very cold, brisk conditions. Highs did not get out of the 40's, with wind gusts of up to 15 mph on certain areas of the golf course.

The homestanding Herd are in a tie for third with Marquette, Akron, and Eastern Michigan after shooting a team score of 290. Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) led the way with an even-par 71, good for a tie for 10th. Other Herd scores were Christian Brand (Charleston, W.Va.), with a 72 (T-14), Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.), with a 72 (T-14), Nathan Kinker (Barboursville, W.Va.), with a 75 (T-47), and Jonathan Pepe (McKeesport, Pa.), with a 77 (T-66). Andy Foster (Vinton, Va.) and Brandon Katzeff (Uniontown, Pa.) posted 72's (T-14) as individuals, and Chris Tipper (Parkersburg, W.Va.) shot a 73 (T-26) as an individual. Other individual scores were Phil DiLorenzo (Wellsburg, W.Va.) with a 78 (T-72) and Josh Boswell (Alderson, W.Va.) with an 81 (T-89).

All attempts will be made to complete the 54-hole event on Saturday, with play beginning at 9 a.m., weather permitting.
