HUNTINGTON - Marshall University Head Football Coach Mark Snyder announced Friday that junior defensive end, Albert McClellan, will miss the 2007 season due to a knee injury sustained in practice. The 2006 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year will be redshirted and have two years of eligibility.

"Albert has a knee injury that will require surgery," Snyder said. "We have to do what is best for him and after consulting with our medical staff, doctors and his family this route is best and it will allow him to come back 100%.

Albert is a team leader and he will continue to lead. The silver lining in all of this is that Albert can now be redshirted, allowing him to maintain two years of eligibility. He will also have an extra year to work toward the completion of his degree."

McClellan, a junior from Lakeland, Fla., led Conference USA with 19 tackles for loss and 11 sacks in 2006 en route to earning first-team all-conference honors and honorable mention All-America accolades.

"In the long run I am gaining more than I am losing," McClellan said. "I get a year to look at the game from a different perspective and this may help me in the long haul. I can help the young guys like Vinny Curry, Johnny Jones and Mike Janac get through some things and give them tips to help advance the team."
