HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's soccer team defeated the University of Charleston Golden Eagle's 3-0 in the Herd's opening season exhibition match at Sam Hood Field.
Ali Lizotte (Iron Station, N.C.) led the Herd in scoring with two goals. Lizotte put Marshall on the board first, as she received a pass from Kassie Hollman (Marietta, Ga.) and out maneuvered Charleston's goalkeeper Whitney Sharp in the 22nd minute. The junior forward drove a 35 foot shot at the 84th minute to record her second goal of the game.
Marshall's Erin Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) put the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles as she received a cross of a corner kick from teammate Kelly Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.) in the 89th minute.
"I was happy with the win," Marshall's Head Coach Chris Kane said. "I feel we still have a lot of work ahead for the season."
The Thundering Herd out shot Charleston 21-9 in the shutout.
The Thundering Herd travels to Pittsburgh, Pa to face Duquesne in their final exhibition match, Saturday, August 25th at 4:00 p.m.
