Thundering Herd Volleyball Opens Season This Weekend

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Marshall University Thundering Herd volleyball team will begin its regular season this weekend at the Virginia Tech Tournament at the Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va.

The Herd will take on William & Mary in its first match of the season on Friday, Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. On Saturday, Marshall will square off with Virginia Commonwealth University at 11 a.m. and will conclude action at the tournament with host Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. Live statistics for each match will be on www.hokiesports.com/volleyball/live.

Marshall is 2-5 all-time against VCU and 4-10 against Virginia Tech and will play its first-ever match against William & Mary.

After finishing the 2006 season 20-12 overall (12-4 C-USA) and earning a second place conference finish, the Herd has its sights set on getting back to the C-USA Championship.

The Herd enters the season opener returning four seniors, all of whom were 2006 All-Conference USA selections.

Marshall also returns a host of veteran players and have added four freshmen to help build the foundation of a team that brings a great deal of experience to the court.
