HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall Thundering Herd volleyball team travels to Bowling Green, Ky. to participate in the non-conference Western Kentucky Tournament and plays its first match against Gardner-Webb University (1-3 overall), Friday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m.
The Herd enters this weekend's tournament 2-2 overall following Tuesday night's win over Glenville State College in its home opener.
Marshall enters this year's contest with a 1-0 record against the Lady Bulldogs dating back to 2003.
Marshall will play Tennessee State University (1-2 overall) in its first match at 12:30 p.m., Saturday and will conclude tournament play against host Western Kentucky (3-1 overall) at 7 p.m.
Saturday's match with Tennessee State marks the first meeting between the two teams, while the Herd is on the short-end of a 1-2 record against Western Kentucky.
Senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad) enters this weekend's tournament with 68 total kills (including a season-high 27 against Virginia Commonwealth) averaging 4.25 kill per game over the first four matches.
Senior libero Maggie Arias (Indianapolis, Ind.) has registered a team-high 65 digs this season while freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming (South Bend, Ind.) has handed out a team-best 222 helpers including a 65 assist effort against VCU.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Thundering Herd returns to the Cam Henderson Center next Tuesday, Sept. 4 when it takes on Xavier University in a non-conference contest at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
