Marshall Volleyball Set For CSTV Match

DALLAS, Texas - The Marshall University volleyball team will travel to Dallas, Texas for the Conference USA opener for both teams on Friday, Sept. 21 against SMU at 8 p.m. ET. The match will air on CSTV on Sept. 23.

Marshall enters this weekend's contest with an overall record of 7-7, while SMU stands at 10-4 overall.

Marshall is 2-0 all-time against the Mustangs with its last win coming on Oct. 1, 2006 in Dallas. The Herd downed SMU 3-0 (33-31, 30-26, 30-28) in that match which marked head coach Mitch Jacobs' 100th career victory at Marshall.

The Herd finished 2-1 in the Friends of Coal Blue/Green Classic this weekend with wins over West Virginia University (Friday) and the University of Akron (Saturday) in Charleston.

The Herd won its sixth straight match against the Mountaineers, 3-1 (30-28, 29-31, 30-24, 30-17) and in doing so, snapped a three-game losing skid.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill (Louisville, Ky.) recorded a match-high 19 kills, while senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad) added 18 of her own. Senior libero Maggie Arias (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore outside hitter Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas) added 16 and 15 digs respectively in the win for the Herd.

In Saturday evening's match against Akron, Billingy tallied a match-high 17 kills, while Arias matched that in digs.

The Herd's lone blemish during the weekend came against Pepperdine on Saturday morning. Marshall took the first game before losing the next three against the Waves.

Billingy and freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming (South Bend, Ind.) (136 assists over the weekend) were named to the Friends of Coal Blue/Green Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Herd will host the University of Tulsa in its conference home-opener on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center and admission is free.
