Herd Volleyball Set To Host Xavier University Tuesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team will host Xavier University Tuesday, Sept. 4 in a non-conference match at the Cam Henderson Center. Match time is 7 p.m. and admission is free.

In a series that dates back to 1978 (Marshall is 4-12 all-time against Xavier), Marshall dropped a 3-1 decision in its last meeting against the Musketeers Aug. 30, 2006 in Cincinnati, and will look to return the favor Tuesday night.

The Herd enters this year's contest with a 4-3 overall record while the Musketeers come to Huntington with a 7-1 record overall.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill (Louisville, Ky.) enters the match just 16 kills shy of breaking into the top five all-time in that category. She leads the Herd with 97 kills on the season, and has accumulated 1,112 over her career at Marshall. Cahill has also registered a team-leading four double-doubles on the season and is second on the team in digs with 81.

Senior libero Maggie Arias (Indianapolis, Ind.) has notched 113 digs on the season and totaled 1,392 in her career. The defensive specialist is just 36 digs shy of becoming the all-time leader in that category.

The Herd defense has been led by senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.) who has totaled 61 kills on the season and registered a combined total of 22 blocks (six solo, 16 assisted). For her efforts she has been named to both the Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky all-tournament teams.

Freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming (South Bend, Ind.) has tallied 359 assists and has provided stellar play in her first season for the Herd.

Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas) has also provided an impact for the Herd. Her 79 digs is third-best on the team and she has added 54 kills to go along with three double-doubles on the season.

Following Tuesday night's match, the Herd takes to the road as it travels to Valparaiso, Ind. to compete in the Valparaiso Tournament. The Herd faces host Valparaiso Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. and will take on Indiana University, Friday at 11 a.m. and square off against Western Michigan at 4:30 p.m.
