Men's Golf Set For Xavier Invitaional

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University Men's Golf team travels to Cincinnati, Ohio to participate in the 2007 Xavier Invitational hosted at the Oasis Golf Club starting Monday, Oct. 1 and concluding Tuesday, Oct. 2.

The nineteen team invitational begins with 36 holes Monday and finishes with 18 holes Tuesday. Shotgun starts will begin play each day at 8 a.m.

Sophomore Christian Brand (Charleston, W.Va.) will lead the Thundering Herd as Nathan Kinker (Barboursville, W.Va.), Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.) Jonathan Pepe (McKeesport Pa.) and Chris Tipper (Parkersburg (W.Va.) round out the Herd's top five.

In last week's EKU Colonel Classic, the Herd finished in third place after three straight 291 rounds. Schambach led the Herd with a 216 and ended in a four-way tie for 10th place. Kinker's 217 placed him in a tie for 14th.

In the 2006 Xavier Invitational, the Musketeers recorded a tournament record 270 to win by 10 strokes ahead of Austin Peay. In individual play, Xavier's Jason Kokrak edged out teammate John Streibich to win the title.

Joining Marshall at the Oasis Golf Club are host Xavier, Akron, Austin Peay, Bowling Green, Ball State, Campbell, Davidson, Eastern Kentucky, George Washington, Marquette, New Orleans, Ohio, St. Mary's, San Francisco, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky and Wright State.
