Volleyball Advances Past Xavier, 3-0

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University volleyball senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad) tallied a match-high 26 kills en route to a 3-0 (30-28, 30-24, 30-16) sweep of Xavier University in Tuesday night's non-conference match at the Cam Henderson Center.

Up 2-0 in game three, the Herd built an 18-10 lead and from there would go on a 12-6 run to seal the match.
"It was great to see us play high-energy efficient volleyball," head coach Mitch Jacobs said following his team's impressive win. "The fact that we did it against a well-coached, very good team makes it that much better."
Senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 14 kills and is now just two kills shy of jumping into the top five all-time in school history in the category.

"Kelly-Anne (Billingy) and Steph (Cahill) were excellent," Jacobs said. "Liz made some very good choices tonight. We had good ball control. We held tough and that makes a difference."

In the second frame, the Herd posted a 29-22 lead before Xavier fought off three game-point opportunities to cut its deficit to 29-24. Cahill, however, tallied her ninth kill of the night to close out the game, 30-24.
