George Washington Edges Marshall Women's Soccer, 1-0

Washington, D.C. - George Washington edged the Marshall women's soccer team, 1-0, in Wednesday's non-conference match at the GW-Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. The final outcome was decided by a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
"We played hard, well and solid in the second 45," Marshall head coach Chris Kane said. "Now all we have to do is put together a full 90 minute game."
Marshall and GWU played a scoreless first half with George Washington having a slight shot advantage over Marshall, 5-4.
Marshall senior Kassie Hollman (Marietta, Ga.) led the Herd with three shots, with two being placed on goal.
"Liz Orton played out of her mind tonight," Chris Kane added. "She came up with two big saves."
Reigning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) ended the game with four saves.
Junior forward Meg Pyle (Franklin Park, N.J.) scored the winning goal for the Colonials while ending with three tallied shots.
The Colonials out shot the Herd 8-3, with five being placed on goal.
With the loss, Marshall falls 1-1 while George Washington improves to 4-1. The Marshall women's soccer team will travel to Newark, Del. to face the University of Delaware on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
