NEWARK, Del. - The Marshall women's soccer team fell to Delaware, 2-0, in Friday evening's non-conference contest. Marshall drops to 1-2 for the season while Delaware advances to 2-1 overall.
"Delaware was a very good and fast team," Marshall head coach Chris Kane said. "We made mistakes and they [Delaware] made us pay for it."
The Herd and Fightin' Blue Hens fought a scoreless first half with Delaware out-shooting Marshall, 5-1. However, the Herd was unable to find the back of the net in the second half. The Hens out-shot the Herd 18-5, with 7 being placed on goal.
"We need our forwards to be more aggressive in the box," Kane added. "We have to regroup and be strong and ready for Sunday's game."
Marshall freshman forward Missy Gordon (Carmel, Ind.) led the Herd with two shots, with one on goal. Herd senior forward Kassie Hollman (Marietta, Ga.) also tallied one shot on goal.
The Marshall women's soccer team will host St. Peter's College in its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 9 at Noon at Sam Hood Field.
